For this site-specific installation, CHH inserted a sequence of portals lined with light into the entry of Flutter. The output of the LED tubes is in constant flux such that no two experiences or representations of the space are alike. Drawing on a contemporary Los Angeles vernacular and executed with essential construction materials that visitors will recognize from the surrounding built landscape, the qualities of space and light created here become an architectural portrait of the city.

Charlap Hyman & Herrero is a Los Angeles/New York based architecture and design firm that takes a fully integrated approach to conceptualizing and executing spaces in their totality. Principals Andre Herrero, AIA, and Adam Charlap Hyman, whose backgrounds are in architecture and interior design, lead a practice that considers all aspects of the built environment, from site plan to furniture. Working in various typologies – including buildings, set designs, retail spaces and private homes – CHH endeavors to consider divergent art forms and the experiences of multiple senses. Their aim is to create spaces that become worlds unto themselves, with gesamtkunstwerk at the core of the firm’s objective.
